"Son of tofu oh." I just shook my head when I realized the reason why my smitten brother sent me to this bar at this time.
Dirty! I was singled out by that noise. Thank you!
I shouldn't be here because I promised my friends that they would sleep over at our house but because of my brother's call, we couldn't continue.
Annoying! His friend must be a scumbag.
I was about to turn my back to leave but my brother saw me and immediately came to me. "Told ya! I can get you here." And he really grinned and put his arm around me. "We're already in the VIP room. The whole band is already there."
No choice so I didn't try to scream. I'm already here so it's better to enjoy the whole night. My friends will understand me if I explain this man's nonsense.
"Why did you suddenly call me?" I asked him as we walked to the VIP room reserved for our group. "Didn't I tell you that when there is an event like this, you will advance me so that I can prepare?"
"Hiro is the vocalist so I know you won't be in trouble," he explained. "And it's sudden because the owner of the bar just told us. Sister Daphney recommended us so we couldn't be turned down."
My brother and I have a band together with some of his close friends. The Mnemosyne. No particular meaning why they chose that name but most of the band members said that they want to engrave every experience they have on their memory.
So, I chose Mnemosyne which is known as the goddess of memory.
But it's not as popular as other bands because we only perform in bars and select events. There were also some occasions when they organized an event at their school and we were one of the ones chosen to play there.
Yeah, I'm in this band and I'm the only girl in the group. I am the band's drummer but only the members know my identity.
Everyone assumes that the drummer of The Mnemosyne is a man because every time we perform, I always wear a black jacket with a hood.
The hood of the jacket I wear is always covered over my head and I even wear a half mask just to make sure that no one will be able to know my identity. The dim lights that were placed in my place also helped so that no one suspected that a woman was sitting in front of the drums and playing them.
And when the music ends, I immediately exit without thinking that it will be a reason for me to get the attention of the crowd. They were very curious about me because I was mysterious in their eyes.
Well, I just need to do that to protect my image. I have another life to focus on that can't get caught up in the bandwagon.
Anyway, I am Sanna Rien Encarias, 20 years old and my sister is Sein Ranie Encarias, 20 years old but we are not twins.
We are actually cousins, but because my parents died when I was young, I was adopted and I am now considered the real son of Daddy's sister, who is Sein's mommy.
It wasn't a problem for his wife about me and he accepted me freely. And at no time, they never made me feel adopted, instead they considered me truly part of their family and I am always grateful for that.
"Hey, guys! Our drummer is here," Sein grabbed everyone's attention as he entered the VIP room occupied by the Mnemosyne member.
"That!" Hiro, our vocalist and my boy bestfriend, immediately approached me. "Long time no see, Sanna." He hugged me for a while and ruffled my hair. "You're getting better, huh."
I glared at him and immediately punched him in the arm before he could get away from me. "Gago! Our school is different, you don't show up anymore. You also rarely call and text. You're tough, huh."
He scratched his head and messed my hair again. "I'm sorry. I'm a bit busy at school."
I was going to punch him again but he immediately got away from me so I was just exhausted. "You might be busy with your girl!"
"You're terrible!" He pulled me so I sat on the sofa. "I'm a good boy. I'm just really busy at school because he's your brother, I tried to join the student council and unfortunately I won."
I looked at Sein who was holding back his laughter and the other four of us.
"It's a laptop," interjected Aldean, the rhythm guitarist and his brother Hiro. "He did everything to make the students turn off him and not vote for him, but it was a waste! There was no telling because ninety percent of the votes still went to him."
"Does it go with beauty," I said shaking my head.
Just like what I said earlier, I don't go to school with them and because we only have gigs three to four times a month, I rarely get to be with them.
Well, except for Sein's best friend who also often hangs out at the house. We just don't get to talk much because I'm also doing a lot at home.
Also, our bonding is only in the past tense because we are still students. We still prioritize education.
"This is your song line up later." Drek handed me the list of songs we were going to play. He is Sein's best friend and Mnemosyne's bassist.
He also arranges the songs to be played at the gig and some of the songs he gives are his own compositions.
"And this is your gear." Kenneth put the bag in front of me. He is the keyboardist. And besides that, he also serves as the band's manager. He handles the gig bookings for us and he talks to the event organizers who invite us.
I nodded to them but immediately frowned when I noticed a piece of paper stuck to the side of the chair so I immediately took it and read it and looked at my companions.
"Who blew the deal here?" I presented them with the paper I was holding and their eyes widened just like that.
They immediately moved away and looked away so I knew they were guilty.
"No one will answer you or I will beat you all the same?" I took out the drumstick and pointed it at them, causing them to swallow.
Yeah, they are under me. I'm just a Taekwondo black belter and they know I can beat them.
"Answer!"
"Just chill, Sanna," Hiro said with a hint of nervousness. Why! It must be because I will destroy what they are doing now.
The paper that I saw was a notice from their naughty school reporter who wanted to have an exclusive interview for the most elusive member of Mnemosyne, which is, the drummer as we all know me.
And what's even more intense, that entire interview will be featured in a popular magazine in the entire city.
This guy already knows I can't introduce myself.
It wouldn't have mattered if I was studying in another school, the case is, no.
I am attending an all-girls school this college and we are not allowed to do any activity that is not suitable for a girl.
And that's one of the reasons why I'm just so careful about hiding it when we play.
"Sorry, sis." Sein approached me and put his arm around me. "You know how nasty that is and we were cornered. There is no other choice but to agree or else, he will worry about you even more and we might not be able to stop it anymore."
"That's the only way we found to stop him from chasing. After all, he just wants an interview from you." Kenneth added.
"Besides, we have done that in a way," Sein continued. "I said in the interview itself, you can't show your face and your voice, I said you're dumb—aww! That hurts." he complained while rubbing his when I flicked.
"You made me dumb!" I snorted.
"There's no choice," said Drek. "And that's the easiest way so you agree."
I stared at the paper until I turned to the date and couldn't help but grin. "Looks like you're going to be in trouble." I took out the phone and looked at the schedule for that day and showed it to them. "My schedule is full that day. Exams and meetings are also very important so I can't be absent or cancel."
They were equally depressed at what they saw and looked at each other.
"What are we going to do?"
I wanted to laugh at their looks but I held it back.
It's up to them to solve the problem, but with the brains they have, they can definitely figure out a way. That's one of the things that impresses me about them even though they're all the same.
I put on the black jacket and a pair of gloves where only the palm and back of the hand can be covered to make sure that the drumsticks don't just slip out of my hand while standing.
"Besides, think about that. We're about to start."
