But it seems life has chosen to confront Henry Lopez - the golden man of New York City. While he decides to turn a blind eye to the conflicts between the werewolf community and the Phantom gang, his close friend Eric gets him involved.
After finishing a working day at the company, Henry received a phone call from Clara - Eric's girlfriend. Her voice was choked and urgent:
“Henry… it's not over. Eric, Eric is in the hospital. He is seriously injured.”
"What? Clara, calm down and tell me everything. Wait, what hospital is he at right now?”Henry quickly got up from his comfortable office chair. He was in such a hurry that he didn't even bother to take his vest with him. He quickly waved his car keys on the table and dashed out of the office at lightning speed. Henry still patiently listened to Clara narrate everything in a sobbing voice.
When going down to the basement to get the car, Henry did not have time to greet the security guard as usual. He hit the gas pedal at an insanely high speed. The super sports car is gradually revealing its advantages in this area. On the wide lane, Henry's car is the most prominent feature. Although no one could see the shape of the car. Because it went too fast, like a mirage.
In less than ten minutes Henry was in the hospital. He went straight inside with a hurried look. Some people recognize this as the illustrious CEO of JM company. They were constantly assessing Henry's current appearance. But he didn't care.
"Clara."
Henry looked around for a moment and saw a familiar figure. Clara went to the hospital lobby to pick him up. Her face was indescribably haggard. The usual dynamic beauty seems to have disappeared. The two met and went back to the emergency room area. No one said a word the whole way.
The red light is still on. It is a sign that the surgery is not over yet. Clara sat down in the pew and burst into tears. Her hands covered her face. The trembling shoulders look pitiful. Henry standing next to him also didn't know what to do. Because now it's meaningless to say something comforting.
He stood with his back to the wall. Both hands are in their pockets. Although the shirt was wrinkled, it still did not reduce his attractiveness. Henry was slowly remembering Clara’s words on the phone earlier. She said that she and Eric will have a romantic dinner together tonight. But halfway through, Eric said he would be a little late for the appointment. Clara waited at home for more than two hours, so she was very worried. She immediately contacted him. The phone rang but Eric didn't pick it up, making Clara’s heart hot like fire. While she was panicking, suddenly there was a loud banging on the door of the house. Clara panicked and went to check and found Eric sprawled in front of him. His whole body was covered with wounds. Severe burns.
Upon hearing this detail, Henry immediately thought of the Phantom gang. But Eric wasn't the one to confront them, so why would they go to war with him? Everything made Henry need to clarify.
About an hour later, the emergency lights went out. The two doors to the operating room were flung open. The team of nurses and doctors pushed the stretcher outside. Clara and Henry immediately rushed over. The two looked at Eric lying on the hospital bed and were heartbroken. His face was pale and lifeless. Eyes closed. The breath was weak and thin. The body is bandaged and full of wires. Henry frowned sadly. Seeing with his own eyes how his best friend turned out left him in no mood at all.
“Doctor, how is he? Is he okay, doctor?"
Clara quickly wiped the tears that were still on her face. Her voice was hoarse. The doctor stopped to make way for the assistants and nurses to push the patient away. Then he turned to reassure Clara:
“You stay calm. Currently, the patient has been saved but still needs to be in a special monitoring room. The injuries on the patient were quite similar to the recent cases that occurred in the city. So the hospital will report this to the police for them to investigate.”
“Y-Yes, thank you, doctor.”
Clara nodded trying to force a sincere smile. But the whole face was stiff and embarrassed. The doctor nodded to both of them and left. Henry patted Clara’s shoulder encouragingly:
“Anyway, Eric is safe. Now let's go to the intensive care unit to see how he's doing."
Clara nodded in agreement. Right now she wasn't in the mood to open her mouth to say anything. Even though her eyes were red and swollen, the tears didn't stop falling. Henry could only take Clara to where Eric was lying.
Later that day, Roy and Alice also rushed to the hospital after hearing the news from Henry. When the two appeared, Clara had been asleep in the break room. It was the room Henry had arranged for her. Clara must have been very tired all day.
Roy stood on the glass wall looking inside the intensive care unit. Witnessing his close friend lying in one place with a bunch of medical equipment around made him both sad and indignant:
“Who was it that harmed Eric so rashly? Eric is such a strong werewolf, how can he be beaten so easily?"
Henry of course understood Roy's feelings now. He just quietly walked over to the waiting row opposite and sat down. After a while, he spoke up:
“I doubt it's because of the witches of the Phantom gang. Even the doctor said Eric’s injuries were very similar to the recent cases that happened in the city.”
"What? It's those damn witches again. But wasn't Eric originally in their target for a war?"
Roy couldn't help but raise his voice. He wanted to punch in the wall, but his mind still reminded him that this place was a hospital. And Alice was also afraid that Roy would do something crazy, so she walked next to him. If that was the case, she might be able to stop it in time.
