(Caleb)
“NOW, I KNOW why you are hiding her.” I said the minute Alaric stepped inside the wine cellar of our mansion. I’m pretty sure he had already taken Gianna back to her apartment.
Alaric gritted his teeth. “Spare her, Caleb. Gianna is a good woman.”
“And she’s a great kisser, too.” I added and watched as Alaric fumed with anger. Although deep inside, I feel like I could still smell Gianna’s divine scent, the sweet taste of her lips against mine, and the warm feeling brought by her embrace...
In a blink of an eye, Alaric was already in front of me. He grabbed the collar of my shirt. “So, this was the reason why you came back? To destroy me?”
“Yes.” I replied without an ounce of hesitation. “I haven’t forgotten every single damn thing that happened in the past, Ric.”
“So, this all comes down to Erin.” He released my collar as if he suddenly grew tired. “After six years, why now, Caleb?”
“I could not think of a perfect timing than your wedding, Ric. I always knew you’d love again and get hitched. And I was right.” Fury flashed in my eyes. “Six years are worth it.”
“And what if I don’t get to marry?”
I shrugged. “Then I would think of a plan B. I would not mind waiting forever, brother. See, that is the beauty of revenge. It doesn’t care about the time. It just wants to get even.”
The frustration in Alaric’s voice was evident when he spoke. “God, Caleb-“
I drew a sharp breath to control the raging pain in my chest. “Just guard your precious Gianna so tight that I would not be able to come near her. Because you don’t know what I’m capable of when I’m in a revenge mode.” I put my calling card in the pocket of his coat before standing up. “Call me in case of emergency which I’m sure... there will be.”
(Gianna)
I COULD not stop smiling as I looked at my reflection on the mirror while wearing my wedding dress. It fitted perfectly. Alaric was supposed to be with me today in my final gown fitting but after driving me to my best friend’s boutique, he left and refused to see me wearing the dress. He said that he wanted to surprise himself on our wedding day.
Sierra and I grew up together in the orphanage. She was the one who personally designed my wedding dress that’s why Alaric and I were really thankful to her. Speaking of Alaric, he promised to come back to pick me up after two hours. These past few days, he acted more like a personal bodyguard than a fiancé. He was always by my side. He would call me every now and then and would check on me in my apartment every day. I would often ask why but he would just shrug his shoulders and simply say that he misses me.
My smile grew wider upon the thought. Alaric was really a sweet man.
When I heard the door opened, I became more excited to show off to my best friend. She left me for a while to buy our lunch. I quickly pushed away the curtain.
“Sierra, I’m wearing the gown now. How do I look?” I asked before turning towards her direction. But the person in front of me was far from the one I was expecting.
Standing a few steps away from me was no other than the man Alaric told me to stay away from. It was Caleb Montero in his fitted carnation shirt, jeans, and dark glasses. I never thought that a lady’s favorite color would actually look good in a man.
What am I thinking? I shook my head. I couldn’t believe that I just complimented this rude guy. “What are you doing here?”
Caleb just gave me a lopsided grin. “And good afternoon to you, too, Snow White.” He removed his sunglasses and ran his eyes up and down my body. “And as for your question before your pretty little eyes assessed me, I think you look beautiful, very beautiful.”
I could feel my cheeks burning with embarrassment. “I did not assess-“
“Of course you did. But it’s okay. I don’t really mind. I just came here to personally apologize for what I did the last time we met.”
That caught me off guard. I looked at him straight in the eyes. His lips were smiling but there was something about his eyes that made me doubt the sincerity in his apology.
“Just try to avoid Caleb for the meantime. He can be a real flirt and a jerk combined when he’s up to something.” All of a sudden, I was reminded of Alaric’s advice. I knew Alaric would not dare say those words unless he meant it. And considering Caleb’s sudden apology after deliberately pretending to be my fiancé meant that he could really be up to something.
I quickly scanned the area but there was still no trace of Sierra around. I didn’t want to panic but I couldn’t help it since it was just the two of us here.
“Okay, you are forgiven.” I said while silently praying that Caleb would stop bothering me. “Now, please excuse me, but I have to change.” I did not wait for his reply. I hurriedly turned my back and was about to head inside Sierra’s office when Caleb grabbed my hand.
“Now that you’ve forgiven me, can I make another sin and just apologize to you again afterwards?”
I gasped. I knew it. This man was up to no good. But before I could push him away, he swiftly covered my nose with his handkerchief. I remembered calling for Alaric’s name before I passed out.
(Alaric)
“HEY, it’s been a long time.” I softly said before I put down the white roses beside the gravestone of the first woman who captured my heart and Caleb’s. White roses were her favorite flowers. I sat on the grass and lit up the candles that I brought.
I gently traced the letters that were carved on the gravestone with my fingers. “I should have listened to you before.” A sad smile curved on my lips. “You were right when you told me that one day; I would be able to find the right woman for me. Because I was able to find Gianna.”
