Ch. 7Chapter 7

"Smells good in here," Blanchette takes one of the blueberry muffins and sinks her teeth into it.
"Coffee dear?"
"Yes please."
After breakfast, Blanchette went to the lake that is right on her grandmother's cottage to soak up some sun.
It is just after midday that she hears her mother's car stop outside the cottage. Blanchette grabs her backpack and puts on her favorite red leather jacket, "bye granma, see you next weekend."
Blanchette gets into the car and plugs a kiss on her mother's cheek, "hello mom, how was your morning?"
"Good and yours?"
"Good, I spent it in the back yard at the lake," Blanchette puts on her seat belt as her mother drives off.
“I had the craziest dream last night, it was so weird,” Blanchette remembers the dream she had.
“Yeah, what was it about?”
Blanchette tells her mom about the dream, “remember that guy I had such a crazy crush on a year ago, well still do.”
“That one whose family got murdered?” her mother tries to think about the guy.
“Yes, Jerimiah.”
“Yeah, yeah, you still dreaming about him,” her mother laughs.
“It felt so real! I dreamt granny shot me with a shotgun! Jerimiah saved me in my dream. He was a Vampire or a Werewolf,… or was he both,” Blanchette wonders now about her dream.
Jerimiah is not sure if he is supposed to provide food, ‘well to late now,’ he thinks as he hears the first knock on the door.
One pack member after the other showed up some with a string of puppies, “wow, there are so many of you.”
“A lot of women was forced to have children in their wolf form or go without as Elizabeth refused us to shift into humans, even it was just to have children. So instead of having one child at a time, like dogs we had litters. So here we are, probably the largest pack in existence, don’t even think the council knows of us,” the pack Beta informs Jerimiah.
“Why didn’t you guys overthrow Elizebeth years ago?” Jerimiah wonders.
“We tried, but she always had the pack divided, especially because no potential Alpha ever responded to our calling. So many of our members have been executed when she found out that they went calling for an Alpha. Eventually, we gave up, well until you showed up.”
“So how come these pups are not in their human form?”
“Just like humans, only shift for the first time round about puberty or age sixteen the same goes for werewolves born as a wolve.”
“No one is to have children in their wolf-form again. I want a complete list of all the women that are expecting and the timeline we can expect the last of the pups to shift into their human form,” Jerimiah orders, shocked at the situation.
We were twenty-one members including Elizbeth and Blanchette that survived the Vampire attack sixteen years ago. We are now just over the seven-hundred members with over five-hundred in puppy form that should be able to shift into teenagers in the next three years.”
“What! No wonder my head felt like it wanted to explode this morning. A pack should be no bigger than thirty-eight members,” Jerimiah exclaimed.
“Elizebeth encouraged us to reproduce so that we can be strong so that we can take on any enemy, Vampires mainly.”
“This is insane,” Jerimiah says with his hands in his hair.
“Currently inside your house are only the head of each family,” the beta says.
“How do we house so many people and wolves?” Jerimiah looks through his curtains at the wolve puppies playing around, too many to count.
The beta realized that Jerimiah is counting the people inside, “seventy-three.”
“So that is about ten to eleven members per family?” Jerimiah does the quick sum in his head.
“Just about but there are at least six pups per family,” the beta says.
“How many homes in your original territory?” Jerimiah is trying to make sure that every single member will have a roof over their head sooner than later as he felt it cruel to have them stay in wolf-form roaming around in the woods.
“None, Elizabeth had them all broken down.”
Jerimiah slams his fist on his dining table making it crack.
“It will be ok, we can just stay in our wolf-form at night, we have been living like this for the past sixteen years,” the Beta tries to calm Jerimiah down.
“I have been in my wolf-form for just a year and I know that even though it is liberating to be wild and free, being human and having a choice is the difference between depression and happiness,” Jerimiah says feeling like he wants to go over to Elizabeth and end her life for her cruelty. ‘How does one she-wolf-alpha manage to suppress so many wolves?’ Jerimiah thought to himself.
“Easy, she turns the pack against each other making no-one believe or trust each other,” one of the family heads answers Jerimaih’s thoughts.
I have to really make a point to shut off my mind-link. I have eight houses excluding my house on my territory, but all of them might need work as they have not been used over the past year.”
“We already scouted the territory and marked it, not that it was needed as your cent is the only cent we picked up. If you have the keys to the houses then that will be great.”
Jerimiah thinks back to his sixteen-birthday when he shifted for the first time. He knows the reason why all the houses are locked to this day. The houses are locked because all the families were at his party, this house. When he was cleaning during the night he found the basket that they use to refer to as the ‘cellphone jail,’ an inside joke as no one was allowed to have any devices when entering their family home. Alongside their mobiles, they had the habit of also putting their house keys with their vehicle keys who all belonged to Jerimiah’s family in anyways.
