Ch. 3Chapter 3

It seemed like Aubrey needs to run for her life – she’s late for class! She bit her lip afterwards. It's only a few minutes because she's late. Because her beauty sleep extended for more than thirty-five minutes, so now she needs to run so she won’t be considered late. She didn't even get to attend the flag ceremony because it had just ended.
As soon as she arrived in their classroom, her knees started to wobble. She arrived three minutes before the classes. Luckily for her, the teacher wasn’t inside the room yet.
"Good morning!" she greeted her classmates. Someone looked at her and smiled at her. Aubrey smiled back and went to her seat.
She grabbed her backpack and searched for her Physics book. She couldn't find her book on Physics so she sighed deeply. She had already checked everything inside her bag but her book was not really there.
Aubrey was left speechless as she realized how unlucky February was. Because of the pattern of unfortunate events, she’s starting to believe that there’s something wrong with this month. Will there be another misfortune coming this February?
"Okay, good morning, grade 12."
Her hands shivered when she heard Ms. Cruz, their terror Physics teacher's voice. She just accepted her fate and turned to the front to face her teacher.
“Please take out your books. We will have your performance task, recitation, and a surprise quiz today,” Ms. Cruz announced
Wow, totally a surprise quiz. As expected from Ms. Cruz.
The class’ atmosphere gave her a feeling that they’re disappointed. “Oh, why are you giving me that look? If you don't want to answer the quiz, leave the classroom.”
If only I could, I might have been out of this classroom a long time ago.
"Before I forget, who forgot their book? Stand up." It is their class policy that when you forget your book, expect Ms. Cruz to let you out.
She closed her eyes as he stood up. The moment she opened her eyes, everyone's eyes are focused on her. "Nice. We have Ms. Torres here who forgot her book. Who else?"
“It seems that she is alone. Aubrey will come out of our classroom. What an unfortunate event for such a pretty face.” Ms. Cruz laughed in the most hideous way she can.
Ms. Cruz's laughter was delayed when someone stood from the back portion of the classroom. Out of curiosity, the attention of the whole class shifted to the stand - Miller. “We have a couple! Something similar between the two of you – carelessness and being naive. What else do you do besides studying to forget the stupid book? ”
"You look good together." Ms. Cruz smirked. She pointed her fingers on the open door. "Now, get out of my class."
Simultaneously the two came out right after Ms. Cruz commanded them to leave the classroom. Miller and Aubrey sat on the hallway floor.
They were both surrounded with an unusual feeling of awkwardness. Aubrey looks at Miller, trying to assess whether Miller wants to talk to her. No matter how hard she tried to give him a sign to talk to her, the man still didn't notice it. The “robot” nickname given to Miller was kinda true if she were to be asked. Makes sense.
Aubrey thought of speaking up to talk to Miller. "So..."
Miller immediately turned to her as she began to speak. Even though his eyes were fixated upon hers, his stare was still cold - as if there was no sign of life inside Inside his eyes was an empty island, just darkness. Nothing in it.
"You forgot your book too?" Aubrey asked.
The young man still did not answer - his lips still pressed firmly together. Miller just nodded. He whispered, "I just don't want to attend her class."
Miller's soft voice sent shivers down Aubrey's spine. If she would just be frank and admit it, his voice gave her “pretty boy” vibes.
It occurred to her to disturb the man's mind so she thought of fooling him. "Is what you're saying true? Maybe you just really want to be with me so you stood up," she teased him.
"You're not my type."
The smile on Aubrey's lips disappeared because of the four words Miller had left out. This man will only speak once but why hurtful words? It seems that pride has trampled on her confidence.
She pouted. "I was just kidding," Aubrey whined.
Miller leaned in closer to her, causing Aubrey's eyes to widen. "Thank you for protecting me from your psychotic ex-boyfriend as well as the saleswoman in the cafeteria."
When he finished speaking, Miller turned his face away from Aubrey. He stared far into the other end of the hallway.
From his sweet words, Aubrey's heart fluttered. "Don't worry about that. Kayden is really stupid, you know," she assured him.
“Stupid?" Miller laughed softly. “Yeah, it shows. "
He added, "By the way, Aubrey."
Aubrey turned to him. "Yes?"
"One more thing." He turned to Aubrey and covered his face. "I'm sorry if I was harsh on you before. I tried buying the same milktea you gave me as a peace offering and at the second taste, I actually liked it."
The thought of Miller covering his face after admitting that to Aubrey made her really happy. Her eyes sparkled and her cheeks flushed. "Don't worry about it! I'm glad you appreciated it finally."
"You can look at me without covering your face, you know," she demanded. After she said this, Miller surprised her with a grin on his face. His smile astonished her.
"You know, Miller, I prefer when you smile. You don't look like a robot," he said.
Miller was devastated by what he said. He tilted his head and lowered one of his eyebrows. "Robot?" said Miller.
"Yes," she uttered with a chuckle. "Don't you hear that from our classmates? That's what they sometimes call you. I guess you don't really know because you don't really care about the world. Just kidding!"
The two's conversation was interrupted when they noticed a student walking in their direction. The smile on Aubrey's face faded when she recognized who that person was - Joanna. Joanna was her previous rival when she still loved Kayden. Joanna did her best to defame Aubrey in every way possible just to misinform Kayden in order for him not to like Aubrey. Joanna did not succeed though, his love for Aubrey was deep. Even though a few months have passed, Aubrey still can't forgive Joanna. She was so low for trying to ruin her reputation just so she’d have Kayden for herself.
She just shrugged that thought off her head. She remembered that she doesn’t really care about Kayden and anyone related to him anymore. They can have him whenever they want to.
"Didn’t realize it was you, Aubrey," Joanna greeted her. Aubrey didn't want to waste time and answer her so she just tried to smile. Fake girl.
