CHAPTER ONE

Andrew was trapped in some basement under the abonded building and he cannot see the way out because of the darkness. 

Suddenly, a strange wind touched his skin. "Shh! You'll never know who am I… I'm a killer without a face and a killer without a heart." he heard a cold voice behind him, he tried to find who it was but then it's too dark to see everything. 

Andrew shouted, "Where are you?! Show yourself!" 

While he's still searching, he heard footstep coming near to him. 

"Even if I wanted to, I can't. If that happens.. your going to know my secrets and by that-" it paused. ".. you deserve to die." the killer whispered which gave him premonition. 

He tried to stay calm and said, "What are you waiting for? Kill me then-" he suddenly stop when Andrew felt something pointing on his neck. 

By that, he knows that death is with him. He's going to die in every second that the killer have the chance to finish him. 

But the killer came closer to his ears and whispered something, "You'll die when I want to.. and as of now, I still need you that's why you're still alive… " 

And slowly, the cold voice he heard vanished together with the pointed thing on his neck. Andrew don't have a clue what happened but he feels strange. 

Later on, lights came back so he manage to see the exit. Before leaving the basement, he has something on his mind. No matter what happens… he will be the one who'll solve the case.

One week ago.

Andrew parked at the next black car and went formally inside the Healing Corporation Building, one of the most well-known hospital in their place. When he entered, he immediately went to Information Desks.

"Good morning, I'm here for the Head Doctor Meriuz. Is he on duty?" he greeted the person who manage it.

"Dr. Meriuz is kinda' busy today. What do you need, Mister?" he asked.

"I'm Attorney. Andrew Gaither and I have the permit to investigate some strange things here. I just have a few questions about the building you're working in, can you inform the Head?" Andrew gave his license card to prove that his saying the truth.

The astonishment of the man was gone and began to apologize, "Oh, forgive me Attorney. Please, take this VIP card for having an access inside this building then you can go to the Head Doctor's Office."

Andrew accepted. Then he go to the elevator. When the elevator opened, he prepared himself before entering the office.

"Yes? What do you need, Mister?" a woman asked him as he entered.

He answered, "I'm looking for Dr. Meriuz, I am Attorney Gaither from District Attorney's Office.."

"Attorney Gaither? You're the one that the Information Desks warned us about. Please, take a sit and wait for a while, Dr. Meriuz is coming." He sat down as the secretary said.

While waiting, he began to look around the room. There were trophies, certificates everywhere and the room was also filled because of the files and frames on the cabinet. The hospital is indeed successful but there are hidden secrets being kept and that is what Andrew will find out.

"Excuse me Attorney, may I get you a coffee?" he was stunned by the woman's offered.

He realized she was attracted to him, he found the secretary nice and smooth but that wasn't a reason for him to ride it.

Andrew responded, "No,thank you."

The woman still, "Suit yourself, Doctor Meriuz is just cleaning up then she'll be here in a minute."

He was shocked when the secretary mentioned "she"

"Did you just sa—"

"Sorry, I'm late. I still have an operation in an half hour." It was to late for Andrew to asked about that because it was answered on purpose when a woman in white scrubs entered.

Suddenly, the surroundings slowed down as he looked at her, the woman's eyes mirror the silent darkness and her lips are red like blood.

"Dr. Meriuz," she heard the secretary. She closed the door and faced Andrew.

"You must be the Attorney I was hearing about?"

Andrew suddenly returned to reality, mating her voice. "I didn't know that the Dr. Meriuz I've been looking for is a fascinating woman, I expected that you're a man," he formally said.

"I guess you're wrong about that Attorney. I am hundred percent sure that my genes and cells will proved that I'm a woman." He was amazed by the lady's response.

"I apologize but let me introduce myself first, I'm Atty. Andrew Gaither from District and it's a pleasure to finally meet you." At the same time, he reached out his hand, it was also a long time before the doctor accepted it.

"Dr. Heart Chandria Meriuz," she said. "Sorry but I only have thirty minutes to talk so I'll direct to the point, Attorney. Why are you here?" Because of that he let go of her soft hand.

He formally responded, "I'm here to investigate your hospital about the case that our town were into and I also have few questions to ask you, Dr. Meriuz… privately."

Then they looked at the secretary at the same time.

"Xandra? Please, get my files on the storage floor," Heart ordered.

"Sure, Doctor. I'll leave the two of you here," she respectfully followed her and immediately leave them both.

Heart breaks the silent, "Now, what was your questions, Attorney?" she led. Then went to her desk to sat down while Andrew did the same.

"Straight to the point, Doctor. Does this Hospital involved of the killing that were happening on this city?" Heart was stunned by that.

She remain calm before answering, "Not even in centuries, Attorney. What would you think so?"

"Simple, your hospital earned a lot of money everytime the victims of the crime were charged here. Is that a yes or a no?"

"No." It took a breath and spoke again, "My Hospital is for good reasons and we didn't build it just to be a tool to kill people. It was built to help, heal or revive people, Attorney, and you for all people must know that .Any other question? "

"Regardless in your records Dr. Meruiz, you were assigned here three years ago exact date when the killing started in this city. So, did you kill someone? Or are you the killer?"

"I already killed some patient not intentionally but I didn't kill anyone innocent because that was included in my job as a doctor, Attorney. How would you believe that?"

"I'm gonna buy that one, but you didn't answer my another question, Dr. Meruiz. Are you the killer?" when he repeated it there was something in his will that demanded that the woman answer no and he did not know why.

"Sorry but no, Attorney. I am not the killer you've been looking for," Heart answered directly and there he felt comfort inside but it didn't end there.

"Last week, you were the one who was last with and talked to Mr. Horlando Echavez, the Chairman of Heal As One Enterprises. Did you kill him for some reason?" Heart was stunned, she wasn't expecting that.

"Negative. I didn't kill him," its emotionality.

"Then can you give me a few reasons why you were together that night?" he asked. It looked at him.

"I can't. It's too formal to share a secrets with an Attorney who's been suspecting you as a murderer," Heart's sarcastic response.

"So your admitting that you had a valid reason to kill Mr. Echavez?" he did not stop questioning the woman.

"Neither. I would never kill him, change your question Attorney," pakiusap ni Heart.

"No. You have to convince me and tell me why, why are you with him that night?" he asked repeatedly.

"Because, he .. he is my father!" And there Andrew was stunned to find out. "I'm her daughter on another woman and he wants me to talk to him that night. H-He was sorry for my mother's death ..."

Andrew's tongue twitched because of Heart's visible emotion. "I'm sorry to hear that," he apologized.

"Don't be. You're just doing your job. Sorry but I have to go, I still have an operation and I still need to prepare. I hope I give you answers that you wanted, Attorney." And then it stood up and reached for the door.

"Can I see you again, Dr. Heart?" Andrew asked stopping here.

"If you'll be my patient, why not?" its look caused the lawyer to smile.

"I'll see you again, Dr. Meruiz," he was confident on his statement before he left.

When Heart leaves the room, he realizes the qualities that the lawyer has but he can't because he has a great responsibility that he needs to focus on more and he won't allow that very man to reveal the truth. all the secrets he had long kept.
