Jeulle stared silently at the ceiling. She was currently in her room and just finished writing spells. She told herself that she’d wait patiently for Hellion to come; however, she already felt bored after a while of doing nothing.
Jeulle fixated her eyes next on the table and saw yet again another kind of crystal. She twitched on her seat as she annoyingly averted her eyes on the walls.
“Ahh!”
Jeulle screamed hysterically as she eventually got fed up of the same stuff. The only thing she saw were made of crystals, crystal this crystal that and just by looking at it for a period of time made her head throbbed in pain. How can it be? She only saw the stuff she’s never been paying much attention to before and it was just now of all times. Is she too attached to her sister that she didn’t bother looking at stuff before?
Jeulle was in deep thought. It’s true she’s been stalking Hellion ever since they were ten and she only got separated from her a few months ago because she stopped sticking to her…
Jeulle pondered for a moment and said to herself. ‘How come Hellion has matured while I haven’t? Aren’t we twins who shared souls?’
At that point, she was speechless. She finally had two questions in her mind that she couldn’t answer. To think it’s much harder than her academic tests. Jeulle doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
Speaking of tests…
It’s time for that.
Jeulle stretched out her hand in the air as the crystal core float above her palm. Jeulle examined her core as she revealed a satisfied expression on her face.
Crystal cores are like a second heart to a magician. If the heart stops working, you’ll cease to breathe. Just like the heart, a shattered crystal core would make a magician void of magic and you can never dream of using magic again.
However, in a case where you would refine it and fill it up. You would be more powerful and attain a higher level as we all surpassed God himself. Though that was deemed impossible as everyone hasn’t reached that high yet.
Jeulle silently chant a spell on her mind as the crystal lowered above her palm. Her power was undeniably strong but to think that she doesn’t have more attributes, she can still be considered as a weak royal member. Still, it wasn’t known that she couldn’t really win a combat fight so it’s fine.
The King, her father Ashton Vanderbilt have a strong magic affinity and also had a leveled physical attributes. He can be the most powerful person on earth if not for the otherworldly being, the Demon King.
But in fact, Jeulle despised her powers. The King was chained underground just to become the kingdom’s power source. It was really pitiful and Jeulle had long wished to free him from that shackles.
That’s why, for as long as she can remember. She was cultivating her power in order to find a solution. If his father died, his power would be scattered throughout the Kingdom’s land to replenish itself and as long as it can still be used. Jeulle won’t take his place.
Yes, it’s the very purpose of the ruler. To be the kingdom’s heart.
Of course, Jeulle doesn’t want that ending and she can’t bear to make someone do that for her sake. All she could do now was to find a way to save her father without collapsing the state.
She insisted long ago that she would leave to seek for an alternative and maybe traveling the overworld would help her find solutions.
There are five kingdoms in six countries in this world. The Vierris Kingdom hold most of the power because of the abundance of magic source in every part of the nation. It can even be labeled as the wolf’s den.
Kingdom of Kigona was the second. It was also a human territory but in terms of alliance, they have the most powerful backing and that is the Demon King. (It wasn’t known though)
The other kingdoms, Catatonia(werebeast), Lesia(elves), and Omisus(sylphs) which are governed by the other race were also known for their own enchantment.
The Demon race which prowls over the Overworld border was a very powerful race which could sweep the country’s population in a flick of their fingers. Although peace and coexistence among the race were lifted. Battles among races still happen from time to time and the most involved are, of course, the Demon race.
How do they avoid the attack you ask? Well it’s quite simple. Every year, in the coming of age ceremony of every young mage, after the Royal selection, there’s a trial that would be held for every participant.
The two strongest heir would either be betrothed to the bordering Kingdom’s heir as a form of allegiance and the other one…
Don’t even question it. The other one will be gifted to please the Demon King and that is the worst case scenario one could ever have. Everyone wasn’t oblivious and it was rumored that the Demon uses human as a tool to strengthen his power. Who knows whether he will eat them or not.
As to Jeulle she already planned to live her life peacefully. She can just go to a secluded place before the ceremony and just do what she has to do.
Jeulle inhaled deep as she absorbed the power from her crystal core. The aura slowly sink inside her chest and the crystal core in her hand slowly dissipates.
Jeulle opened her eyes and stared towards her palm in deep thought. After she felt the energy residing in her body became clearer and stronger than before. Jeulle felt pleased as the power she’s been cultivating for years had eventually paid off.
Jeulle slowly quivered her lips into a smile as she clenched her fist tightly. She then said in a low voice as her words filled with intense determination.
“Just a bit more.”
