Ch. 1Secret Encounters at the Lake

Callum entered Una as she moaned in sheer ecstasy in becoming one with the man she loved. Callum's hardness filled her with sheer pleasure as he rhythmically moved in and out of her groaning as he did so. She looked up into his deep dark green eyes feeling that she was being consumed by their intense gaze upon her naked body, as she lay beneath his large muscular masculine frame. She had given herself in mind and body to Callum McNeil for the last three months meeting here at this spot by the lake once a week. They met here on a Sunday evening after Callum returned his sister to work at Una's father's house where she worked as a housemaid. Una would sneak out after midnight when it was certain that all others were asleep in the house. Callum would wait for her patiently at the lake. Una would sneak out with the help of Fenella (Callum's sister) who would keep watch for Una while she went to meet her lover. The two lovers would spend some precious time together, not long, for fear of someone in Una's father's house waking to find her gone. It was a big risk these night time meetings, but it was the only way that they could be together.

Her father had promised her hand to another man that Una could not stand the sight of, never mind having to marry him and being forced to spend the rest of her days in a loveless marriage. Her father had no concern about his daughter's happiness, this marriage was more of a business deal in her father's eyes. Her husband “to be” was a man by the name of “Ewan Davish”, he was a wealthy man that had made his money in sheep farming. He was a big brute who had the manners of an ape, she was totally repulsed by him shuddering at the thought of him touching her.

She had tried to stand up to her father by rejecting his plans to marry her to Ewan. This defiance towards her father totally enraged him. Una was met with a severe beating from her father in response to this impertinence and locked in her rooms for a week. She was only visited briefly by Fenella who brought her food and helped to bath her wounds that her father had inflicted upon her back. Fenella pleaded with Una not to further enrage her father, she must just be obedient to him. She explained to Una that they would come up with a plan so that she would not have to marry the man she did not love. She wanted to marry Callum eventhough her father would never allow her to marry Callum because he was from a clan that her father did not see eye to eye with. They had to be careful on what they would do because they did not want to endanger Callum's clan members from retribution from her father. As of yet they had not found a way to solve their dilemma. Her wedding to the ape “Ewan Davish” was to take place in less than a month's time.

Callum and Una were running out of time they needed to come up with a plan soon to rescue Una from this grim future that her father has planned for her. Her father had sacrificed her happiness so that he would gain monetary profit from this marriage deal he had chained her to. She knew if she went against her father's wishes he would disown her, she would become a distant memory in his eyes. She would never be allowed to visit her dear mother again. Una's mother (Effie) was a kind hearted soul, but very timid and fearful of her husband and his anger, she like Una had been on the receiving end of his lashings over the years.
Effie did not marry Fergus Mullen because she loved him, she was married to Fergus through an arranged marriage. Fergus married Effie because he was attracted to the large dowry that accompanied this marriage. She was a good woman and beautiful, how she ended up marrying the troll Fergus was not out of love, her father was desperate to marry her off. It wasn't long before Fergus Mullen came sniffing around Effie. It didn't matter what Effie thought as Fergus and her father had made a deal to allow Fergus to have Effie's hand in marriage, a loveless marriage at that.

Una knew her mother did not agree with her father's marital match for her, but her father didn't care what her mother's opinion was on the matter. He had made his decision and didn't care what his wife and daughter thought. Una felt that her world was slowly getting closed off, with no choices of her own as to what she would choose to do with her life. Fergus had decided without asking her opinion that she was going to marry the human ape “Ewan Davish” whether she liked it or not.

Una and Fenella finally devised a plan that the two of them would run off to meet Callum in the woods the following Sunday night when the rest of the house was fast asleep. Fenella told Callum to bring two extra horses for her and Una on the following Sunday. Callum felt great in knowing that he would finally be able to hold Una in his arms and take her away from the reaches of her tyrant of a father once and for all. They would get married in his home county of Dumbartonshire where they could spend the rest of their lives together, forever!

Approaching her mother's bed chamber Una knocked lightly on her mother's door, Effie tells her to enter. She went over and sat with her mother on a couch facing each other, and holding hands. She told her mother of her plans to run away and marry the man she loved (Callum McNeil). Una was hoping that her mother would forgive her for leaving in the way that she planned to. She was hoping her mother would understand why she had to do it. Effie told Una that she should run as fast and as far away from this grim place and be with the man she loved. She did not want her daughter to end up like she did in a marriage that was loveless. She regretted her whole life for not being strong enough to stand up against her own father, when he told her the marriage plans for her with Fergus.

She would feel good in knowing that her daughter was living off in Dumbartonshire county with the man that she loved, living a happy life filled with love unlike her own which was filled with much heartache and dread. Una and her mother spent as much time as they could together during Una's last week under her father's roof. One day they were both in the kitchen preparing a dumpling together, talking about the plans that Una and Fenella had devised for their escape from this hell. Little did they know that Vera Maggs (the house cook) was inside the cold cellar listening to the plan.
